Who We Are

The Rio Blanco Maya Association (RBMA) is an indigenous Maya community-based organization incorporated as a limited liability company on 18th October, 2004 under Chapter 25 of the Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000 and subsequently registered as a non-government organization under Act 26 of the Laws of Belize on 23rd November, 2004. It was organized with the objective of managing the national park while preparing the park and local communities for future tourist activities. The Association is governed by a five (5) member Board of Directors that includes a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, Vice Treasurer, and Secretary.

To position RBNP as Toledo’s top visited National Park creating enjoyment and satisfaction through tourism services.

Rio Blanco Maya Association will be helpful to and respectful of its stakeholders through hard work and creativity.

Our History

The RBMA is a group composed of seven Mopan Mayans from the villages of Santa Cruz and Santa Elena in the Toledo District. It is the purpose of RBMA to co-manage the Rio Blanco National Park, thus assuring that the park will be officially protected, regularly monitored and that the decision-making and benefits are placed in the hands of the communities involved.
